Sequence of closing and opening the power distribution box

Sequence of closing and opening the power distribution box

Always follow the sequence: Earth first, then Neutral, followed by phase connections; reverse the order when disconnecting, ensuring safety and proper interlocks.Opening and Connecting the BoxEarth Connection First (FMLB – First Mate, Last Break): Unlock and open the Earth cover using the provided key. Insert the Earth cable into the Earth socket. This ensures grounding is established before any live connections are made, preventing electric shock or equipment damage .Neutral Connection: After the Earth is secured, open the Neutral cover and connect the Neutral cable. In some 4-port boxes, this step may be skipped if a Neutral port is not present .Phase Connections (L1, L2, L3): Sequentially open each phase cover and connect the corresponding phase cable. Align the connector markings (arrow to green circle) and rotate clockwise to lock each connector in place. The mechanical interlocks prevent earlier connections from being removed while subsequent covers are open .Circuit Breakers and Power-On: Once all connectors are mated, switch on the main input circuit breaker and any upstream breakers. Then, sequentially close the output circuit breakers and check the status of surge protection devices (SPD) and output voltages using a multimeter .Disconnecting and Closing the BoxTurn Off Output Circuit Breakers: Sequentially switch off all output breakers to isolate downstream circuits .Phase Disconnection: Unlock and remove phase connectors in reverse order (L3, L2, L1), ensuring covers are closed before disconnecting the previous connection .Neutral Disconnection: Remove the Neutral cable after all phases are disconnected, closing the cover before removing the Earth connection if applicable .Earth Disconnection Last: Finally, disconnect the Earth cable and close the Earth cover. This ensures the system is safely de-energized and grounded until the next operation .Safety ConsiderationsMechanical Interlocks: Many distribution boxes prevent disconnection of earlier connections while subsequent covers are open, reducing the risk of accidental live exposure .Verification: Always use a multimeter to confirm voltage levels before and after connecting or disconnecting circuits .Proper PPE: Wear insulated gloves and follow lockout/tagout procedures when handling high-current connections .Cable Routing: Keep power and signal cables separate to avoid interference and maintain safety . Following this sequence ensures safe operation, prevents electrical hazards, and maintains the integrity of the power distribution system.
