Fiber optic patch cord components are processed through a series of precise steps including material preparation, cable cutting and stripping, connector assembly, curing, polishing, and rigorous testing to ensure high performance.Material PreparationThe first step involves selecting high-quality optical fibers, jackets (typically PVC or LSZH), and connectors (SC, LC, FC, ST, MTP, etc.) based on application requirements. The fiber must be free of defects, and the jacket ensures mechanical protection and environmental stability .Cable Cutting and StrippingFiber cables are cut to the required lengths using manual or automated cutting machines for consistency and efficiency . The outer jacket and buffer coatings (commonly 3.0mm, 2.0mm, or 0.9mm) are stripped using fiber/cable strippers, exposing the bare fiber while removing aramid yarn (Kevlar) and other protective layers .Connector AssemblyThe stripped fiber is cleaned with isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and residues. Epoxy or adhesive is injected into the connector ferrule, and the fiber is carefully inserted. The assembly is then cured in a UV or thermal oven to secure the bond . The connector housing and strain relief boot are assembled, and the ferrule end-face is polished using automatic polishing machines and cleaned with ultrasonic equipment .Cleaving and PolishingAfter curing, the fiber tip is cleaved and polished to achieve a smooth, defect-free end-face.
