The function of the fiber optic melting tray and hot melt tube

The fiber optic melting tray organizes and supports fibers during termination, while the hot melt tube heats and liquefies adhesive to secure the fiber in the connector.Fiber Optic Melting TrayA fiber optic melting tray is designed to hold and organize optical fibers during the termination process. It typically consists of multiple sub-trays with fiber adaptation units and introduction ports, allowing fibers to be guided and positioned accurately for connector insertion . The tray improves space utilization and makes maintenance easier by keeping fibers separated and accessible. In practice, it ensures that fibers remain stable and untangled while the adhesive in the connector is heated and set, reducing the risk of damage or misalignment.Hot Melt Tube / ConnectorThe hot melt tube or hot melt connector contains preloaded high-temperature adhesive that secures the fiber inside the connector. During termination, the connector is placed in a hot melt oven or heating block, which raises the adhesive to a liquid state (typically 245–270°C or 473–518°F), . The stripped and cleaned fiber is then inserted into the molten adhesive. Once removed from the oven, the connector is allowed to cool, solidifying the adhesive and firmly holding the fiber in place . This process eliminates the need for epoxy mixing and significantly reduces termination time, often to just a few minutes.Operational AdvantagesEfficiency: Preloaded hot melt connectors simplify the termination process and reduce setup time .Precision: The tray and tube system ensures fibers are aligned correctly with the ferrule, improving optical performance .Safety and Maintenance: The tray keeps fibers organized, while the oven or hot melt tube provides controlled heating to prevent burns or fiber damage .Versatility: Suitable for both single-mode and multimode fibers, and for indoor or outdoor LAN applications . In summary, the melting tray provides a structured workspace for fiber handling, while the hot melt tube or connector ensures the fiber is securely bonded with adhesive, enabling fast, reliable, and high-quality fiber optic terminations.
